BRISTOL RMBI 2008 FESTIVAL
The amount raised during the course of our Festival was revealed at our Gala
Ball on Saturday 19th April. This proved to be a most enjoyable celebration and
when W. Bro. Peter Grey, the Chief Executive of the RMBI, announced the total
raised there were audible gasps of amazement. This amounted to no less than
£2,189,670 a huge sum and a wonderful surprise for everyone
present.
The Gala Ball was hosted by the Festival President, our Provincial Grand
Master, R. W. Bro. Michael John Flynn and his wife Ann. We were delighted to be
joined by R. W. Bro. Capt. Sir Norman Lloyd-Edwards, the Junior Grand Warden
representing Grand Lodge, together with many honoured guests, including V. W.
Bro. Willie Shackell, the President of the RMBI and members of the Board of
Trustees and RMBI Council. Almost 400 people were present at the Gala Ball,
enjoying an excellent evening and celebrating the successful conclusion of our
Festival.
The aim of our Festival has been to raise funds for the Royal Masonic
Benevolent Institution, the 66th largest of the many thousands of Registered
Charities in the UK. The RMBI is a Masonic Charity, originally founded in 1842
and today operates 17 Care Homes across England and Wales for the benefit of
Freemasons and their dependents. Of the some 1,000 residents in these Homes
about two thirds are Ladies. A further 3,000 people living in the community
receive pastoral care and support from the extensive network of RMBI care
workers.
The RMBI needs annual charitable support of about £3.6 million each year
as a contribution towards those residents who are unable to meet their fees in
full. The funds raised by the Province of Bristol through the 2008 Festival,
combined with the very generous support of our many friends most notably
the Helvetica Lodge and the Bristol Lodge together with the large
donations from the Metropolitan Grand Lodge and many Provincial Grand Lodges
will continue to help the RMBI to meet the cost of care to its residents.
The response to the 2008 Festival has been fantastic and has resulted in a most
satisfactory outcome for the RMBI. The enthusiasm of all involved has proved to
be a great power for good in the Province of Bristol. It has been a huge team
effort and I offer our sincere appreciation to all who have so generously given
of both their time and money, as well as all those who have helped in so many
other ways to deliver the amazing result of £2,189,670!
Thank you so much for your support of the 2008 Festival and the RMBI.
